Wonderful Napoleon III Style antique marble mantle
This beautiful Napoleon III Style antique mantle was made in the 19th century. This mantle is made of a beautiful breccia marble: a beautiful black marble richly veined with yellow and red.
Its lintel rests on straight jambs, each delimited by a small cap and a foot block. The two carved modillions feature finger flutes. They appear under the lintel. The tablet is thin and molded.
The Napoleon III style, often called "Second Empire style", is characterized by the sumptuousness, the exuberance of the forms, the profusion of the decorative motifs and the eclecticism (Inspired by the Antiquity, the Ancien Régime, the Renaissance and the Louis XVI style ...). Born under the impulse of the Emperor Napoleon III, this style was highly prized by the French bourgeoisie from 1860 (Period of the strong transformation of Paris under the impulse of Baron Haussmann).
