Pair of antique weathered natural carved limestone sculptures : lion with a ball on molded base

This elegant pair of lions carved in natural stone beautifully worn and weathered by time is a decorative pair of lions resting on a thick rectangular molded base that was reclaimed from a castle located in the Luberon (Provence).

These 2 lions have been restored by hand in our stone cutting atelier located in Provence.

Dating from the mid-18th century, each lion (a male and a female) sits on its hind legs and holds a stone sphere under one front paw (the male under the left paw and the female under the right). The male lion looks confidently to the right, while the female is turned to the left, creating balance and beautiful symmetry.

The lion is a symbol of strength, courage and protection.
This pair of lions will add a majestic touch to your home (atop gate pillars or at the entrance of your home), acting as guardians and welcoming guests with charm and grandeur.

For the record : these two lions are similar to those above the main entrance of the Maison Jean Vilar (founder of the Avignon Festival), a Historic Monument in Avignon.
