Large Louis XVI style marble mantle

This superb antique mantle was carved in beautiful black marble richly veined with white. It was made by a master craftsman in the 19th century.

It is inspired by the Louis XVI geometric style and features the main characteristics: thin molded shelf, rectangular lintel decorated with an engraved elongated frame in relief and triglyphs on the jambs, a pair of straight jambs with beautiful finger flutes. The jambs rest on marble bases and the hearth offers a streamlined throat.
