Antique Louis XV mantel in carved Jaumont stone

A beautiful antique mantel, full of charm, History, and elegance !

This antique 18th-century mantel hand-carved in the Jaumont stone (*) is a beautifully crafted Louis XV period fireplace.

This mantelpiece features a pair of sheathed jambs supporting a curved lintel decorated with a shell sculpted by hand in relief in the center. The molded hearth is beautifully crafted with curves and counter-curves.

(*) The stone of Jaumont is a beautiful limestone quarried near Metz (East of France). Its beautiful ochre/yellow color comes from the fact that this natural stone is mined in quarries located above disused iron mines. It is this iron oxide that gives it this unique "golden yellow" color.
