Antique Louis XV mantel in carved Jaumont stone

Stunning antique mantel, full of charm, history, and elegance !

This antique 18th-century mantel, hand-carved from Jaumont stone (*), is a beautifully crafted Louis XV period fireplace.

A pair of sheathed jambs supports a gracefully curved lintel, adorned at its center with a hand-carved shell in relief. The molded hearth displays elegant curves and counter-curves, while the slender molded shelf follows the movement of the lintel with harmonious continuity.

(*) Jaumont stone is a distinctive limestone quarried near Metz, in Eastern France. Its warm ochre-yellow hue comes from iron oxide present in the stone, mined from quarries located above disused iron mines, giving it its characteristic golden glow.
