Wonderful antique cast iron fire back. Rectangular shape. In good condition, this exceptional fire back features a central scene of the Genesis: Lot fleeing Sodom in flames

Lot is one of the main characters of Genesis, the first book of the Bible. This biblical character was born in Ur of the Chaldeans. He is the nephew of Abraham. He lives in Palestine, at Sodom, in the south of the Dead Sea. Sodom is (with the neighboring city of Gomorrah) destroyed by sulfur and fire because of god’s wrath.

This fire back was made in France. It dates back to the 17th century and is signed.
