Antique Louis XV-style fireplace carved in white limestone

This large antique fireplace hand-carved from natural white limestone is an elegant mantel which decor fits perfectly in the French Louis XV-style (1715-1774).


The fireplace features slender curved jambs ending in consoles that rest on thick rectangular feet. The monolithic lintel, which also forms the tablet, is beautifully sculpted with a series of delicate hand-carved moldings on both the tablet and the returns. This intricate decoration continues around the entire hearth opening, thus highlighting it beautifully.
