Antique 19th-century Volvic stone fireplace

This antique fireplace dating from the 19th century is inspired by the French Regency-style mantelpieces. It features sculpted ornamentation associated with this style : clean, straight lines and neoclassical motifs.

The low-arched lintel of this fireplace features an opulent molding and a lovely central motif sculpted by hand within a cartouche depicting a flower and foliage. The shelf is thin and molded. The straight jambs are adorned with simple, geometric moldings.

This large antique mantel was carved from a beautiful gray volcanic stone : the stone of Volvic.
