19th century antique red marble mantle
This beautiful antique mantle dating from the 19th century features a pair of jambs and a straight lintel. It is treated as a frame: the vertical parts and the horizontal part are proportioned and similarly molded. The right-angled molding reinforces this symmetrical effect. A wide bolection molding delimits the hearth while highlighting it. The shelf is the only element that breaks the frame illusion.
This beautiful mantle with its bolection molding that surrounds the whole piece (very characteristic of the Louis XIV style) was made in the 19th century. It is made of red marble from Languedoc.
