Louis XVI style wedding fireplace with trumeau in stone
This Louis XVI (1754-1793) style antique fireplace is made of Pierre de Thénac stones (natural white hard limestone from subterranean quarries located in Poitou-Charentes region).
This fireplace reveals the skilled craftsmanship of the original stonecutters. Louis XVI style fireplaces have a strong architectural line and straight designs. The tapering jambs have carved centerpieces and are topped by a rectangular monolithic lintel beautifully sculpted with two rosettes at the ends. The lintel has a protruding tablet. The trumeau, topped by a beautiful cornice with drip moldings, was thoroughly sculpted with various ornaments: finger fluted panels, frame in relief with a wedding floral design motif and leaf details. Those hand carved details appear also on top of the finger fluted panels.
This elegant antique stone fireplace was unassembled in a beautiful single-family dwelling located in Poitou-Charentes region. Initially, the antique wedding fireplaces were specifically ordered and carved for the wedding of a family member of the house. Then, the fireplace was placed in the newlyweds’ s home.
