This large French Louis XIII style fireplace features a pair of slender tapering jambs supporting a rectangular monolithic lintel and a finely molded shelf. The lower part is simpler than the upper section, where the wealth of hand-sculpted details reflects the genius and craftsmanship of 17th-century stone-cutters.
The trumeau displays various decorative sculptures : a finely molded central frame flanked by two sculpted pillars topped with carved anthemion. A thoroughly carved cornice crowns the entire piece.
