19th Century hearth cooking
This antique fireplace was carved out of Savonniere stone.
Called “potager” or “hearth cooking”, this piece keeps demonstrating the ingenuity of the former stone craftsmen working in our French countryside. In fact, this 19th Century hearth cooking is made of natural stone. Thanks to its height, people could easily light a fire while cooking dishes above the cast iron stew-holes filled with embers.
This fireplace has monolithic jambs and a monolithic streamlined throat.
We can still see that the monolithic lintel was centered by a kind of plate.
This is a beautiful antique piece for a countryside and rustic feel in your home.
