Antique fireplace made of Dijon yellow stone : Louis XIV

Louis XIV style antique fireplace carfted into the Jaumont yellow stone.

Jaumont stone is a natural semi-soft calcareous stone quarried in Moselle department just above old iron mines. Its gold-yellow color comes from iron rust. It is usually used for building constructions in the region of Lorraine and near the city of Metz. Many fireplaces of this region were made of this beautiful specific stone.

Its original console-shaped jambs are sculpted and molded. The original lintel has unfortunately been broken and was reissued. It has a flat molding running along its lower edge and is topped by a wide molded shelf.

This fireplace has characteristic features of the Louis XIV style. The particular color of the stone makes it very beautiful.
