Wonderful French Regency style antique black stone fireplace

This wonderful and original Regency style antique lava stone fireplace dates back to the 18th century.

This well-proportioned fireplace was hand-carved out of a natural French stone by a skilled stonemason. The color of the lava stone makes the whole piece unique and very original.

This fireplace features a finely molded shelf that gently sits on a very wide monolithic lintel. This shapely lintel is decorated with various hand-sculpted ornaments such as a very beautiful symmetric shell that is a very characteristic feature of the Louis XV and Regency styles. The hearth line features a beautiful protruding bolection molding that flanks the central shell with scrolls and volutes. The S-shaped console jambs are straight and thin. Their upper parts are decorated with finely carved motifs.
