Napoleon III style antique red marble mantle
Napoleon III style mantle made of red marble richly veined with white and grey.
The lintel rests on straight jambs topped by modillions with scrolls. The tablet is thin and moulded. The whole piece is decorated with moulded panels.
This Napoleon style, which could be summed up in one word: richness, is characterized in general by an exuberance of forms and a profusion of decorative motifs. The nineteenth century was also the time of the transformation of Paris under the impulse of Baron Haussmann. With the proliferation of Haussmannian apartments, marble fireplaces also become common pieces of furniture!
